Joey Barton to escape action over Tweet

Marseille midfielder Joey Barton has appeared to have escaped punishment over his latest brush of controversy, after the French Football Federation’s ethics council summoned him to a hearing for insulting Paris Saint-Germain center-back Thiago Silva via Twitter, that ended with no ruling being made.  Barton branded Silva an “overweight ladyboy” via social networking site Twitter earlier this month, which drew much criticism.

The council suggested that “problems interpreting statements made in English”, caused the non-ruling, but also said that it had not received expected advice from lawyers, which also delayed the case.

Barton is currently on loan from at French club Marseille from English club Queens Park Rangers, and was sent out on loan from QPR after receiving a ten-match ban from the English FA for elbowing Carlos Tevez, kneeing Sergio Agüero, and attempting to head-butt Vincent Kompany in the last day of the 2011/2012 Premier League season.
