MOTD preview- Borussia Dortmund vs Malaga

Borussia Dortmund are set to take on Malaga at the Signal-Iduna-Park today in the 2nd leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals, with The German side favorites to progress to the semi-finals after the two teams played the first leg out to a goalless draw. Dortmund wasted their many chances in the first leg, allowing Malaga to salvage the 0-0 draw in Spain last week. Jurgen Klopp’s men should not be too worried though, as the German side have progressed on all of their three previous 0-0 first leg first leg draws in European competition. Malaga on the other hand have a tall order ahead of them, but manager Manuel Pellegrini will not have given up hope, and will be motivated to become the first manager to take two Champions League debutants to the semifinals of the competition after doing so with Villrreal in 2005/2006.

Dortmund have extra incentive to win the tie, after Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga title on Saturday following Bayern’s win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The German side beat FC Augsburg 4-2 over the weekend and have been on impressive form in the league only losing twice since early December. But Dortmund have been on even better form in the Champions League, and are the only unbeaten side left in the competition after winning “The Group of Death” (Group D) unfazed, and beating Shakhtar Donestk 5-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16 after drawing the first leg 2-2, then winning the second leg 3-0. Die Borussen have a perfect record at home in this season’s Champions League and will fully expect to come out of the match as victors, with Robert Lewandowski, who is tied as the third highest scorer in this seasons Champions League, looking to score is sixth goal in the competition.

Malaga have been on weaker form in both the Champions League and La Liga, winning only two of their last nine matches in all competitions. The Spanish side started the Champions League season well, topping Group C over AC Milan, Zenit Saint-Petersburg, and Anderlecht after impressive wins over Milan and Saint-Petersburg. But they have recently had a dip, and only just managed to progress from the Round of 16 after overcoming a 1-0 deficit from their first leg against Porto to win the tie 3-2. Whether Malaga can manage to progress or not, the match is sure to be exciting, so look out for my full time review, right here on Football Every Day!
